Watch Straps
How do I measure my watch strap size?
Measure the lug width with a rigid ruler between the inner edges of both lugs on your watch. Common sizes are 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 and 24mm. See our complete measurement guide for detailed instructions.
How do I change a watch strap myself?
You need a spring bar tool. Place the watch face-down on a soft cloth, compress the spring bar with the tool to release it from the lug, then install the new strap in reverse. The process takes 2 to 5 minutes. See our step-by-step guide.
NATO, leather or rubber: which strap should I choose?
NATO is ideal for summer and sport (lightweight, water-resistant). Leather is the most versatile (office to dinner). Rubber is perfect for diving and intensive sport. Read our complete comparison.
What is the difference between alligator and crocodile straps?
Alligator has more regular scales with visible pores, primarily farm-raised in the USA. Crocodile has more varied scales without visible pores, raised mainly in Asia and Africa. Both are excellent leathers. Learn more in our alligator guide.
How long does a leather strap last?
With daily wear: 1 to 2 years for a standard strap, 2 to 4 years for a quality strap with proper care. Lifespan depends on exposure to perspiration and frequency of use. Rotating between multiple straps significantly extends their life.
How do I care for a leather strap?
Wipe with a soft cloth after each wear. Condition the leather every 2-3 months with a suitable cream. Avoid water contact. Store with the strap open to prevent creasing. See our complete care guide.
Can I fit a standard strap on a Patek Philippe Nautilus or AP Royal Oak?
No, these watches use proprietary insert systems. MisterChrono offers bespoke solutions with compatible inserts. Discover our bespoke service or contact us for a quote.
Buckles and Clasps
Pin buckle or deployant clasp: which should I choose?
The pin buckle is classic, lightweight and affordable. The deployant clasp protects the leather, offers greater security and a more precise fit. For valuable timepieces, we recommend the butterfly deployant. See our comparison.
Watch Winders
Can a watch winder damage my watch?
No, if the turns per day (TPD) is correctly set. Modern movements feature a slipping clutch that disengages automatic winding once the mainspring is fully wound. See our winder guide.
How do I choose the right winder?
Check three settings: TPD (turns per day) suited to your movement, rotation direction (clockwise, counter-clockwise or bidirectional), and capacity (number of watches). Swiss Kubik and Scatola del Tempo are our reference brands.
Storage and Protection
How should I store my watch collection?
Use a box with individual cushions, store leather straps open (not clasped), and keep the box in a dry place away from sunlight. A silica gel sachet protects against humidity. See our storage guide.
