OUR STRAP GUIDE TO THE ROLEX GMT MASTER PEPSI

The GMT Master is one of the most iconic timepieces of the Rolex collections for over six decades, as is the Submariner. Since its launch in 1954, the GMT-Master has distinguished itself by its famous red and blue rotating bezel graduated 24 hours symbolizing the day and the night.

At once sophisticated and sporty, but also robust and refined, this watch was originally designed for the Pan-Am aviators: with an extra hand around the dial in 24 hours, it allowed intercontinental flights pilots, booming at that time, to read the time in two time zones simultaneously, hence its name: GMT Master, the acronym GMT meaning Greenwich Mean Time.
As a reminder, the term GMT was replaced in 1972 by the abbreviation UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), however, many watch brands as well as most watch enthusiasts continue to use the GMT abbreviation for dual time zone.
Very quickly, the GMT Master Rolex was adopted not only by the pilots, but also by businessmen and then by famous celebrities of this time. From Robert Redford to Tom Selleck to Dustin Hoffman ...
Since his success has never failed.
Over the years, the model has of course evolved ... Step by step, as always with Rolex. The reference ref. 1675 was therefore followed by ref. 16750 then GMT Master II ref. 16710 and GMT Master II ref 116719 BLRO in white gold ...

Originally, the GMT-Master's bezel disc was made of clear blue and red plexiglass. But considered too fragile, Rolex has quickly abandoned these glasses and evolved, in 1959 with the ref 1675, with a anodized aluminum glass that often has nowadays, a beautiful patina.

This watch was produced until the late 70's. This is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after vintage "Professional" Rolex on the market.
